Generic Web Server Platform
The generic web server platform integrates various modules, components and programs to provide the basic functionality of a web application server. Though most parts are provided by the operating system, the core part systems are built from their source distributions and integrated for easy usage. The platform comprises:
- Computing platform
- Apache and Maxdaemon HTTP Servers
- Openssl Cryptography Toolkit
- Perl Interpreter and CPAN Modules
- Mysql and Mariadb Databases
- Other tools like GD (Gd Graphics Library)
Computing Platform
The default operating system (OS) for Maxscape is Unix. So far, the platform has
been build for Ubuntu,
Debian,
SUSE,
Red Hat and
HP-UX.
The current Maxscape distributions are known to run on Debian and Ubuntu out of
the box.
There are several tools, that are not part of a initial OS installation. You need to
install them explicitly (with e.g. apt-get -y install PackageName). Not all of these
tools are required:
aptitude,
rpm,
cvs,
tcsh,
vim,
autoconf,
bison,
cmake,
gitExpat,
libtool,
g++,
ibaio-dev,
libncurses5-dev,
libav-tools,
libxvidcore4,
libfaac0,
libpng12-dev,
libjpeg62-dev,
libxpm-dev,
zlib1g-dev,
lynx,
rcconf,
whois,
net-tools,
gnome-tweaks,
locate,
nmap,
iptables,
man-db,
and analog
Apache and Maxdaemon HTTP Servers
The platform comprises a pre-compiled Apache and a Maxdaemon HTTP server. Apache is compiled with FastCGI, Mod_perl and OpenSSL. Maxdaemon is an HTTP server solely written in Perl. Both servers are linked against OpenSSL for SSL and TLS communication.
OpenSSL Toolkit
OpenSSL is a cryptography toolkit implementing the secure sockets layer (SSL) and transport layer security (TLS) network protocols and the related cryptography standards.
Perl Interpreter and CPAN Module Library
The pre-compiled Perl interpreter is tailored for its use with Maxscape. A reasonable subset of modules from the CPAN achive are already installed for various tasks (DBD/DBI, IO, IO-Socket-IP, libwww, etc.). More modules may be added to your project's requirements.
Application Server Content Databases
Maxscape stores application content and code in a relational database that must conform to the SQL language standard. Though it is possible to use any rational database (Msql, Mysql, Mariadb, Oracle, etc.), that is supported by the DBD/DBI interface, pre-compiled and pre-configured Mysql and Mariadb databases are integrated for the webserver platform distribution.
